GOLF CLUB NEWS – MAY 2009
SPRING IS HERE! Bill and his crew have the course in great shape already for the coming year.
Our next meeting will be May 13th at 6:00 PM in the Golf Clubhouse. Please plan to attend. In order to hopefully make this article more readable (shorter), we will be posting the minutes of our monthly meetings in the Clubhouse and on our website (see below). This will save space in the newsletter and allow the type to be larger.

Greens aeration and sanding occurred on Friday April 17th. We had an excellent turnout of volunteers to assist Bill and Chuck. We wish to THANK the following for their much appreciated help:
Bob Sponseller Dave Marzich Paul Klein Gary Baxter Sam Brown Ron Lewis Norm Mankins Don Franz Bernie Plisko Mike Hudak Bill Balough Yours truly John Rhodes (for loaning his equipment when ours broke down) If I forgot anyone, please forgive me and accept our heartfelt thanks also. THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!
We are also continuing the Closest to the Pin/Hole in One Contests on the Holiday weekends of Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Volunteers are needed and appreciated to donate their time for these contests. A sign up sheet for volunteers is located in the Clubhouse. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated for various duties throughout the week and weekend. Signup sheets are in the clubhouse for those desiring to help. Please give a few hours of your time. We now have our own Website-lakemohawkgolfclub.org. Visit it – you will be impressed. Please patronize our website sponsors. In the attempt to make our club more member-accessible, we would still like to have the email address of all our members in addition to their member name(s), current address, phone number, and lot number. This will enable us to quickly inform and remind our members of important events and meetings. Please email your info to us at
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
or fill out email info sheet located in the clubhouse.
The Tuesday Night Men's League held their Organizational Meeting on Tuesday, April 21st at the Golf Clubhouse at 6:00 PM. League play began May 5th at 6:00 PM. The Thursday Night Men's League held their Organizational Meeting on Thursday, April 23rd at the Golf Clubhouse at 6:00 PM. League play started on April 30th at 6:00 PM. The course is closed for golf during Tuesday and Thursday League nights at 6:00PM. It is open during the other league times on a space available basis. Please be courteous to all golfers, whether in league or not. The course will be closed on Friday May 22nd after 4:00 PM for the CS Teacher Scramble. It will also be closed during all other scrambles.
We are still committed to increasing revenue in any way possible, not only by increasing dues. You may recall some of our previous ideas: Increased Bench Advertising, Lake Mohawk logo balls, golf shirts, and other apparel. We now have golf bags and Lake Mohawk Golf Shirts available for sale at the Clubhouse. Any other revenue producing ideas will be gladly considered. Call any Board member with your questions or ideas or bring them up at a monthly meeting.
We are implementing our plan to increase the compliance of our HONOR SYSTEM of paying for green/trail fees when the clubhouse is unattended. It has come to our attention that the majority subsidizes the few who choose not to pay to play. The Honor System envelopes have been changed to make it easier to identify those who are less than honest. All those using the Honor System must fill out the info requested on each envelope and place the appropriate amount of money in said envelope. The envelope will then be sealed and deposited in the slot above the scorecard/envelope box. Golfers will find a receipt enclosed in the envelope as a means of proof of payment. Please keep receipt with you during your play that day. Ignorance of the need to pay before you play is not a valid excuse. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE HONOR SYSTEM RULES COULD RESULT IN: EMBARASSMENT, EVICTION FROM THE COURSE, AND POSSIBLY WORSE! The Golf Club Thanks you for your anticipated honesty.
We will also be implementing the use of a Course Ranger at various times and days. He will be checking for those who have not paid their green fees and /or trail fee for non member carts. He will also monitor the course for groups of golfers in excess of 4 and split them (if the need arises) as conditions dictate. We have attempted to make the Club rules more visible (new signs, on the score cards, etc.). Remember the $ 4.00 non member cart fee, starting your round on hole #1, and signing in if the clubhouse is open. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.
The GOLF CLUB Clubhouse rental is $100, payable at time of reservation. $50 + $50 deposit (refundable if clubhouse left in good condition). This is not an increase in the cost, but rather a way to recoup damages or cleanup costs caused by renting party. The Golf Clubhouse is available for rental all year long. Keep us in mind for parties, family reunions, holiday events, etc.
MAY MEETING - MAY 13TH 6:00 PM AT THE GOLF CLUBHOUSE JUNE MEETING – JUNE 10TH ( Same time, Same place)
This is your Club - It can only be as good as you want it to be
